Dec 9th A Month in the Mile High City

Denver — a place where craft coffee fuels ambitious mornings, cocktails cap off lively evenings, and the Rockies are always within arm’s reach, whispering promises of adventure. Spending a month in this energetic yet laidback city taught me a few things. Denver isn’t just a destination — it’s a mood. It’s a place where urban sophistication and rugged charm collide, making it the perfect canvas for events, experiences, and unforgettable moments.

Denver truly is a playground of possibilities. From neighborhoods that set the scene to venues that elevate the experience, the city offers a mix of spaces, flavors, and vibes that make it easy to create something special. But what sets Denver apart is its ability to cater to both the detail-driven event pro and the wanderlust-filled visitor. Here’s what I discovered during my time here—and how you can make the most of this Mile High gem.

Every great event starts with the right location, and in Denver, neighborhoods are more than geography—they’re personalities. Take RiNo (River North Arts District), for instance. It’s the kind of place where the walls speak in vibrant murals and every alleyway doubles as an art gallery. As I wandered past warehouses-turned-creative spaces, I realized that RiNo isn’t just cool—it’s effortlessly cool. It’s a haven for pop-up events, outdoor festivals, and art-driven activations. If you’re planning something that thrives on creative energy, RiNo is your canvas.

On the flip side, there’s LoDo (Lower Downtown), where history meets hustle. Anchored by Union Station, this neighborhood is a hub of activity with its red-brick charm and polished dining options. Hosting an event here means tapping into a rich narrative. Union Station itself is a venue worth exploring, with its bustling atmosphere, grand architecture, and spaces that offer a seat amongst the action.

Then there’s the Highlands (I stayed in LoHi), with its tree-lined streets and boutique vibes. It’s the kind of place where you can plan a relaxed client brunch at  Fox and the Hen, a chic spot run by Chef Carrie Baird who has earned a number of accolades for her work over the years. And it has its own wall of hot sauces local to the region!

And Cherry Creek—a pocket of luxury in a city that otherwise leans unpretentious. Its upscale boutiques and high-end eateries make it a natural fit for sophisticated, chic gatherings. Should we call it CheeCree?

No event planner – or event attendee, for that matter – survives without caffeine, and Denver has no shortage of incredible coffee spots that double as inspiration hubs. From Hello Darling, where morning lattes turned cocktails by night, to Nurture, a Highlands gem that combines adaptogenic lattes, acai bowls, and a wellness-driven atmosphere, there was no shortage of cafés to explore. My favorite spot? Wooden Spoon. They say the best time to go is Saturday morning at 8:00am but really, there’s no bad time to pay a visit here. Think savory pastries, sweet treats, and everything in between.

Of course, food is at the heart of every great experience, and Denver’s dining scene is as versatile as it is memorable.

Blackbelly Market on Tennyson Street offers a Wagyu Steak Sandwich that is a *chef’s kiss*.

Tavernetta in Union Station is the best Italian in town. (And everyone knows it.) So, plan accordingly.

Uncle is the go-to joint for ramen. It has an open-kitchen concept and hip, community-style seating – which was unexpected, admittedly – but it didn’t matter the food was just too good.

For something with a little flair, Uchi is a showstopper. This Japanese-inspired spot doesn’t just serve food—it creates an experience. Small plates like their Wagyu Hot Rock and signature sushi rolls invite conversation, making it ideal for dinners where the goal is to impress without overwhelming.

But really, no trip to Denver would be complete without embracing the great outdoors. Whether you’re planning a team-building activity or just need a personal reset, the city’s proximity to nature is its greatest asset. Red Rocks Park and Amphitheater is an obvious choice, blending hiking trails with world-class acoustics. Even if you’re not catching a show (which 11/10 we recommend), walking the trails around the amphitheater is enough to recharge your soul! Chautauqua Park in Boulder offers trails that vary from leisurely strolls to steep climbs. The Flatirons provide a stunning backdrop for group excursions or solo explorations. And St. Mary’s Glacier delivers alpine views and a literal glacier—perfect for those “we did that” moments.

A month in Denver taught me that its neighborhoods, food, drinks, and natural beauty create the perfect ecosystem for creativity and connection. But a few important tips: First, the altitude is no joke. Hydration is key. Second, embrace Denver’s unique spaces – the city’s venues are as dynamic as its people. And finally, don’t be afraid to mix urban charm with outdoor adventure. It’s that blend of city and mountains that makes Denver unforgettable.

So, whether you’re hosting, attending, or just passing through, Denver will inspire you to think big, dream boldly, and always leave a little room for exploration.

After all, that’s what the Mile High City is all about.

The art of experience.
